Growth capital

With Herbert Smith Freehills

Thursday 24 November, 4pm to 6pm, taking place virtually

How does a start-up evolve to become a multi-billion pound business?

On the afternoon of Thursday 24 November, we will be exploring this question as part of a student commercial awareness virtual event with Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF).

The focus will be on the growth capital that is needed to scale up brilliant ideas into transformative companies that revolutionise sectors such as technology, life sciences and sustainable energy.

Lawyers play a key role in the financing of such start-ups, acting for many different types of investors, including venture capital firms, private equity houses, sovereign wealth funds and corporate venture arms of major companies, before guiding successful companies through to later phase developments such as IPOs (initial public offerings) and mergers and acquisitions.

We’ll be hearing from several members of HSF’s growth capital team about their role, why they enjoy it and how they got into it, as well as looking at some of their recent work highlights.

There will then be virtual networking with the speakers, HSF trainees and members of the firm’s graduate recruitment team.

HSF offers 65 training contracts each year and pays newly qualified solicitors £120,000.

The speakers
• Michael Jacobs, partner specialising in growth capital, equity capital markets and M&A at HSF
• David D’Souza, partner specialising in private equity transactions at HSF

Apply to attend above. You’ll be asked to submit two questions for the speakers.
