The SQE: two years on

With the Solicitors Regulation Authority and BPP University Law School

The Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) regime has been in force for nearly two years, transforming the route to solicitor qualification.

On the afternoon of Tuesday 11 July, Legal Cheek is partnering with BPP University Law School for a virtual student event to reflect on the SQE so far.

We will be joined by Julie Swan, director of education and training and Richard Williams, policy manager at the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in a session chaired by Jonny Hurst, BPP’s head of outreach. They will be joined by other senior representatives from the SRA, who will be announced in due course.

With multiple SQE1 and 2 exam sittings having taken place, the speakers will explore what we have learnt, and any changes that we are likely to see in the near future, as well as providing practical advice for students preparing to embark on this path.

Also up for discussion will be how the introduction of Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) is offering the opportunity for students to take their career journeys into their own hands, and what this looks like in practice. The speakers will also address concerns regarding the SQE pass rates published so far, and the so-called “attainment gap” between different ethnic groups.

After the panel discussion there will be virtual networking with the BPP University Law School team.

Apply to attend above. You’ll be asked to submit two questions for the panel.
